Welcome to the WW2 Wayfinder Channel. I have always been fascinated by World War 2 and now I want to share that passion by bringing stories of that conflict to life.
I travel to Normandy, Belgium, Italy and further afield to film the battlefields of WW2 and bring first hand accounts of what took place in the very locations they happened 80 years ago! Filming on location, using aerial photography and original wartime footage in each episode I bring to life locations that normally remain hidden in the history books.
I hope through the channel it keeps the memory of those who fought for freedom alive and provides an educational aspect for those who want to know more about this incredible period of history!

Reliving History: D-Day & The Commando March
Reliving History: D-Day & The Commando March
As part of D-Day 80 I was lucky enough to be invited to take part in the Commando March from Sword Beach to Amfreville via Pegasus Bridge!
The route retraced the steps of the original Commandos of the 1st Special Service Brigade who landed at Sword Beach as part opf 3rd Division on D-Day. One of the tasks that day was for the 1st Special Service Brigade to relieve the men of the D Company, 2nd Battalion the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry who had captured Pegasus and Horsa Bridges in a Coup de Main operation in the opening minutes of the 6th June 1944.
Living History events take place all over Normandy to commemorate the 6th June 1944 and the Commando March is just one of those. It was an incredible experience to wear the correct uniform and equipment and to walk the ground those men did 80 years on D-Day.
A huge thank you to Sebastian for taking the time to organise the march and to Martin of Hand of Steel Reenactment Group from the Czech Republic.

Just a couple of points from myself, I mention Merville a couple of times in the episode. This was due to a small translation misunderstanding that after Amfreville we would continue to the march to Merville but the march did finish at Amfreville.
Secondly, my All Arms insignia annoyingly came unstitched after I put my bergen on just prior to the march. I sadly didn't have time to fix it!

Brilliant video - I'm visiting Normandy in 2 months time. Is it possible you could give me the location of "Tipper's doorway"? I want to visit that spot. Thanks
Great video. I was there in 1995 and there was a great cap museum there plus a diorama of where all the German vehicles were left behind. Hope it is still there.
Com essas nuvens cinzas carregadas e com essa música de fundo parece que o tempo não mudou.
Why would a mother call her son after one of these actors... not Clint or Richard.. no my mum.. my mum called me Derren.. not Darren but Derren all my life oh it's Darren.. no Derren.. oh never heard of that..
I wonder if the Commandos would have force marched, while for good reason the reenactment went at a manageable pace.
But trees do not forget anything. Damn you war...
Amazing. Thank you
Probably the only then and now where a dirt road in 1942 is a not paved now
1000coment
That one guy doesn’t know how to smoke a cigarette.
Former trooper from the 82nd here. Thanks for your hard work tracking down the pictures and the places. My Grandfather landed on D-plus 6 and survived the war. But he never spoke of it. All I know I found out when my Gram died, and all his service papers turned up. Much respect to that generation. Again, thank you.
My ancestor Marvin Rudolph VanBuskirk was part of the D-Day drop with the 101st Airborne Division, 501st Parachute Regiment.
Very well done. I had the privilege of visiting the site in 2006 and your work helped clear up some questions I had from that visit.
Very Iconic place
Excellent video. The Brits do it very good. Serious. Very well researched. And the close caption works too, for us who can't hear. Americans making this kind of movies tend to be so excited. And sometimes misinformed, or just skimming the surface. This video is a prime job. And I have seen a lot. And even been in Normandie several times, however not at Falaise. And I'm Swedish.
35% estimate was dead because some bunch idiots had this stupid idea,🤮
Fake
Haha nope
Fortunately you have a French text in "description", for the French subtitles here, being an automatic translation, are hilarious. However, the speaker is well understandable. Very interesting theme anyway !
Amazing like to go to Normandy 1 day
What an incredible then and now. All around those men were some tough SOB! My son and I can't wait to get over there. We will have to wait until next year! Darn old age and surgeries hold up what you try to accomplish.🤣 Keep them coming Jon. Stay safe.
The tower has not been preserved😢
when I see old day like 1940s ..I feel that I was there
🇫🇷🇺🇸🇨🇦❤
Excellent tribute sir ❤
Cảm giác như mới ngày hôm qua 😢
Great video as always. Those museums are an expression of the gratitude of the French people for the sacrifice made by American soldiers to liberate Europe from Nazism. Their memory will live forever on French soil. A grateful Frenchie.
What happened to the Sherman?
NIESAMOWITE ZDJĘCIE 🫡🇵🇱
It’s incredible isn’t it! And taken 80 years ago to the day!
Ternyata peninggalan sejarah perang msh ada dan menakjubkan
Di bagian ini sy ĺihat filmnya seru
At 6:15 when you marched on Pegasus bridge and the pipes started playing, that got to me, choked right up. Powerful stuff.
I know what you mean! I think everyone straightened up at that point and forgot the weight of the kit!
Rmhnya msh kokoh
I see it even after the picture is gone😊 Thank You
Beautiful
Thank you!
I m from Verdun and I m really proud of the history of this city. Ps: sorry if my English is bad
Your English is perfect! I’ll actually have two full length Then and Now episodes from Verdun out in the next few weeks which I hope you’ll enjoy!
@@WW2Wayfinder thank you
In wars, if the generals were fighting wars themselves, there would be no wars in the first place
Spitfire Mk IXe MJ136 VZ•S part of a fighter sweep being conducted by 412 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force on the 10th June 1944 from Evereux - Chartres - Argentan. Piloted by Pilot Officer D R Jamieson of 412 Sqn it suffered a glycol leak and was forced to land just to the west of Audrieu. It was then photographed a week later on the 17th June 1944 as a column of Sherman’s from 8th Armoured Brigade move past it toward the village of Audrieu.
Did the pilot survive ?
Perang memang menghancurkan sekaligus membuat sedih.
Whenever I see these videos, i can't hold back a tear or two rolling down my eyes.
for when 2 tiger tanks will just not get the job done
Mann.. Bavaria is kind of a shit hole now…
GOD BLESS & REST IN PEACE ! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ! 😪😢😭🙏✝️🍀
UK band of brother !👍💪
Thanks!
That was amazing. Sent chills when you reached the bridge. It's a reminder to all who took part in d day what ever nation,... for there sacrifice we have the freedom of today... God bless them....
It was the highlight of the March! Seeing the 6th Airborne there and marching past the Cafe Gondree was something unforgettable, especially when the Piper started up, sitting stuff for sure!
